Mechanical contractors make up the largest single representative trade group on any construction site and contribute significantly to the economy of British Columbia.

The mechanical contracting industry in BC:

  • Employs and accounts for 59,000 people
  • Is responsible for $4.8 billion in wages
  • Contributes $8.6 billion to the GDP

The construction industry as a whole employs 251,000 construction workers – 191,200  of whom are tradespeople. The economic impact of the construction industry in BC is significant, accounting for 10% of the province’s GDP. With the current value of construction projects at $158 billion and proposed projects at $173 billion (Source BCCA), mechanical contractors are providing essential services impacting all British Columbians.
