One-Degree Shifts: Building Tomorrow’s Greatest Places to Work

If there is one thing we’ve all learned in the past months, it is that the future is impossible to predict. Knowing that, how do we build teams that thrive in the weeks, months and years to come? The answer lies in one-degree shifts: small, consistent changes that enable teams to build trust, remove friction, and build a culture of innovation.

In this engaging, and takeaway-loaded presentation, workplace expert Eric Termuende shares what years of research, stories, and insights uncover about the one-degree shifts leaders use to adapt to an ever-changing world around them and build incredible teams. From Domino’s Pizza to the British Cycling Team, discover how the consistent application of small, incremental changes improves camaraderie, belonging, psychological safety, and engagement. While the future of work is certain to be uncertain, there is nothing to say we can’t still thrive in it.

In this presentation, attendees will learn the secret of a one-degree shift to:

  • Reduce friction and build trust
  • Increase effectiveness of remote/hybrid teams
  • Build a culture of innovation
  • Understand your role in creating a ‘greatest place to work’
  • Discover what cilantro teaches us about strong workplace culture

Creative Approach to Succession Planning at Kal West Mechanical Systems

We’re all hearing the same message – planning for transitional change takes time. It also takes employee entrepreneurship, creativity and a commitment to the company’s continued success. This is where the past and current team at Kal-West Mechanical come in.

Founded in 1987 by MCABC Past President and Lifetime Member, John Davina, and now owned by a group of Kal-West employees (since 2018), the company brand attributes of quality and integrity shine strong. And so do its employee-owners!
Join Kal-West General Manager Keith Pearce and former Owner/President John Davina as they share their stories of how this new ownership model came together and how it will evolve going forward.

Corporate Culture and Employee Retention at Pitt Meadows Plumbing & Mechanical Systems

You have likely heard the quote from legendary management consultant Peter Drucker that states, “culture eats strategy for breakfast”. However, sometimes we struggle to understand what it means in real life. While strategy is important, if you peel back the layers, it means that the culture you create in your company can be a better predictor of success than any fancy strategy. In short, company culture is about people-the people we want to engage and retain. We all value our employees and want to engage and retain the skilled tradespeople, project managers, and admin and support staff who keep our companies running in a very tight labour market. In this Grand Slam session, James Zelinski, Chief Administrative Officer at Pitt Meadows Plumbing & Mechanical Systems, will talk about employee engagement and what PMP does to create its unique culture that is designed to retain its valued employees.
